Industrial Design Projects

Mobile Device Design

Mobile User Experience design is emerging as one of the most challenging and exciting technology venues. Our staff are helping clients build better User Experiences by using data from usability studies to help design keypads and software user interfaces. MTI’s industrial designers and human factors engineers work with our clients to understand how to apply hardware and software user interface design principles to make their products helpful, easy to learn, and fun to use. Knowing how people work helps us make your products work better for users.

Wind Tunnel Test Support

Wind Tunnel Test SupportMTI’s industrial designers also provide wind tunnel test support for NASA’s computational fluid dynamics group. 3D models of the test article and the tunnel are built, and a visualization tool is used to develop a test configuration prior to testing. The image shows a test set up in a 40 x 80 Ft wind tunnel. The laser is lunched from the starboard side to the port side and then the laser is reflected back to starboard side. Cameras both upstream and downstream of the model are focused into the region of interest, which is the green square in the laser sheet. During an actual test run the tunnel is seeded with smoke, and when a blade passes through the region of interest, the laser illuminates the seed particles. From the movement of these seed particles, the trailing edge vortices of each blade can be quantified.

Medical Device Design

MTI industrial designers have provided product design services to leaders in the informatics industry offering integrated and innovative medical software solutions for patient record keeping.  Our attention to usability issues begins at product inception, ensuring that solutions are effective and desirable, and development and redesign costs are kept low.
