Maximize mission success with human-centered engineering

complex systems designed with human factors engineering.

Human Factors Engineering (HFE)

Complex systems with advanced technologies often have more capability and functionality than users can extract. This leads to extremely capable systems that don’t live up to their potential in practice. Human factors is the key that unlocks this value, a force multiplier for system design and development.

MTI’s human factors engineers have decades of experience designing and analyzing human interaction with complex systems to maximize operational mission performance.

Human-Systems Integration (HSI)

MTI optimizes system performance and total ownership cost through the systems engineering function of HSI. This maximizes the overall effectiveness of the solution by integrating the domains of manpower, personnel, training, safety, health, habitability, survivability, and human factors engineering.

At MTI, HSI isn’t a specialty, it’s part-and-parcel of our holistic systems engineering approach.

User Experience (UX) Research & Design

User empathy drives our UX approach. MTI’s UX research, design, and development experts create impactful, intuitive solutions for any domain or problem with a mature, proven UX process tailored for the specific needs of the effort.

On portfolio- or enterprise-scale efforts, we implement a Lean User Experience Center of Excellence (LUXCE) to provide consistent, intuitive interfaces across the solution. For all projects, our work maximizes usability, intuitiveness, learnability, visual appeal, user confidence, and overall solution success.

Naval Mission Planning in action.

Mission Planning

MTI has unique expertise in mission planning software solutions based on our Visualization, Planning, Execution, and Review (ViPER) suite.

Our mission planning solutions minimize tedious plotting so planners can focus on overall mission impact. Our tools enable planners to gather information from distributed sources, integrate considerations in a single application, and rapidly transition from sketching to execution. Our containerized architecture allows various capabilities to be integrated easily for collaborative, multi-asset planning for any type of mission or effect.

Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)

MBSE enhances systems engineering with traceability among requirements, structure, and behavior across the engineering lifecycle. MTI is a leader in user-centered MBSE, ensuring that solutions meet user need from stakeholder requirements discovery to solution validation.

Our agile approach empowers collaborative, cross-functional teams with shared decision-making and problem-solving. We implement proven practices from across DoD and commercial industry to uncover stakeholder needs, deliver highly usable solutions, and validate mission effectiveness iteratively and often. We incorporate state of the art digital engineering approaches including modeling integrated human-system performance, to reduce risk and enhance designs.
